We are looking for an experienced Welding & Coating Inspector – Topside to act as the Client / Owner’s Representative at a fabrication yard responsible for the construction of an offshore substation topside.

This role focuses on supervision of all steelwork, welding, and coating activities, ensuring that fabrication and assembly are executed in full compliance with project specifications, certification requirements, quality standards, and HSE regulations.

The position requires strong on-site presence, proactive problem-solving, and close coordination with the Site Manager, Lead Inspector, and wider project team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise all steelwork, welding, and coating activities at the fabrication yard

  • Act as the Client Representative for welding & coating disciplines and main on-site contact for the Contractor

  • Ensure fabrication and assembly comply with:

    • approved specifications

    • quality standards

    • certification requirements (e.g. offshore regulations)

  • Work in close cooperation with:

    • Site Manager / Topside Coordinator

    • Lead Inspector

    • Quality Assurance & Certification teams

    • Pre-commissioning team

  • Participate in all contractor meetings related to fabrication activities

  • Monitor storage, handling, and preservation of free-issued materials (FIM)

  • Supervise and verify construction documentation, including:

    • Welding documentation (WPS, WPQR, welding plans)

    • Material certificates, consumables, coatings

    • Equipment calibration and maintenance records

    • Environmental conditions for coating works

    • Welder, NDT, painter and blaster qualifications (e.g. FROSIO)

    • Dimensional control

  • Proactively identify and resolve issues on site

  • Identify and report non-conformities (NCs) and HSE incidents

  • Ensure corrective actions for NCs are implemented in accordance with procedures

  • Register and follow up discipline-related punch list items in the agreed project tool

  • Participate in:

    • partial technical acceptances (as per ITPs)

    • HAT and final visual inspections prior to sail-out

What We Are Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Engineering degree or equivalent technical background

  • Certified International Welding Inspector / Engineer
    (IWE / EWE, IWI-C, CSWIP 3.1 / 3.2)

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as Welding & Coating Inspector

  • EN ISO 9712 certification, minimum Level 2 (NDT)

  • Proven experience in steel fabrication, preferably in offshore wind or offshore structures

  • Strong competence in preparation and review of welding documentation

  • Good analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

  • Fluent English (spoken and written)

Nice to Have

  • Experience as Site Manager or senior site personnel on major construction projects

  • Internationally recognized coating certification
    (e.g. FROSIO Level 3, NACE CIP Level 2 or equivalent)

  • Experience in non-conformity management and punch list follow-up

  • Arabic language skills (spoken and written)

Additional Advantages

  • German language skills

  • Qualified Electrician certification (e.g. DIN VDE 0105-100 or equivalent)
